       Engaged by CPT Global Limited for several Fortune 100 customers to undertake MIPS reduction projects.

§ Identify expensive SQL statements using various software tools (Strobe, Freezeframe, Expetune, Apptune, Detector etc).

§ Review DB2 Subsystem Environment. Perform Health Checks.

§ Review program code for inefficiencies

§ Present and implement solutions.

Engaged by Spartan Stores to identify and tune expensive SQL using EZ-DB2.

§ Reduced Production DB2 CPU usage by 30% over 3 month period, resulting in a reduction of assigned     MSU’s and considerable cost savings.

Used Bachman DBA tool for design and documentation. Used DDF for distributed DB2/MVS access. Analyzed, reviewed and tuned all processes accessing the database

§         Designed databases for DB2/MVS/CICS/COBOL performance benchmark application for a Canadian oil company on behalf of IBM, Canada. 

§         Supported a DB2/MVS/QMF pilot application for Glendale Federal Bank

§         Installed DB2/MVS and QMF, established the DB2/MVS environment (standards, procedures, security etc) for USS-POSCO and SAIF 

§         Developed disaster recovery procedures, and recommended system performance enhancements for Kroger 

§         Supported implementation of a customer order system for AT&T

1980 - 1987: LUCKY STORES - IMS & DB2/MVS DBA and Manager
 

§         Managed up to 15 people in the Database Group, including the Design, Technical Support,Data Administration and Development Center functions.

§         Led a project to build a Corporate Data Model using "BSP" and "SISP" methodologies. Developed 5 and 10 year software technology plans.

§         Performed DBA tasks (design, support, troubleshooting) in an IMS DB/DC,PL/1 and COBOL environment. Supported the implementation of DBRC, Datavantage, SHRINK, Database and Block Level Data Sharing. Developed and conducted numerous advanced IMS and DBRC classes

§         Set up the DB2/MVS environment. Established standards and procedures for DB2/MVS, including naming conventions, security, backup and recovery, programming guidelines etc. The environment included DB2/MVS, CICS, IMS/DC, TSO, QMF, DBEDIT, DXT, DB2PM and CSP.

 1975 - 1980: ALTERGO LTD - Programmer/Analyst 

§         Worked for clients including IBM, Rowntree-Macintosh, British Leyland, Aramco, Lucas, Fodens and Lucky Stores on a variety of applications. All programming was done in PL/1, COBOL IMS DB/DC. Also taught PL/1 and IMS classes.
